Bryce Basques, MD, is a spine surgeon at Brown University who specializes in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders such as stenosis, disk herniations, spondylolisthesis, spinal deformity, trauma, and tumors. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive spine surgery ("keyhole surgery"), rapid recovery protocols, and motion preservation (non-fusion surgery). He customizes each treatment plan to each patient's needs, with a focus on non-operative management when possible.

Dr. Basques attended medical school at Yale University, where he completed a combined MD and Master of Health Science (MHS) program focused on clinical outcomes research. He completed the prestigious orthopaedic surgery residency at Rush University, where he was an associate team physician for the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox. After residency, he completed the spine surgery fellowship at the renowned Rothman Institute, where he was an associate team physician for the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Dr. Basques has over 100 peer-reviewed publications and he regularly presents spine research at national and international academic meetings. He has received multiple research grants and awards from organizations including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), North American Spine Society (NASS), and the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Basques maintains an active clinical research laboratory and mentors medical students, residents and fellows.

Dr. Basques serves on the NASS Research Funding Committee, for which he evaluates grant applications and directs research funding for the largest multispecialty spine society every year. He is also on the NASS Clinical Practice Guideline Committee, where he evaluates current literature to generate evidence-based recommendations that guide clinical practice worldwide. He is a peer-reviewer for multiple major academic journals.
